Its mission is to promote and protect the rights of the child through international action.<\/p>\n<p>DCI played a significant role in the creation and the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted November 20, 1989. DCI has national sections in 45 countries. DCI has consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, the ILO, UNICEF, UNESCO and the Council of Europe.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ff63fdd elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ff63fdd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Defence for Children International-Canada<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ddb4b08 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ddb4b08\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Canadian Section of DCI was recognized as part of the Defence for Children International movement in June 1989 and incorporated in Canada as a non-profit organization in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>DCI-Canada monitors governments\u2019 compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child both in Canada and around the world.
